THE DIAMOND ROCKS CAFE

A FAMILY RUN BUSINESS

Kevin’s grandparents, Minnie and Joe Haugh, had a sweet shop and Kilkee’s original golf course here in the 1930’s. When the golf course closed in the 1940’s, they changed it into a pitch and putt course. In 1969 Kevin’s parents and family returned from Chicago and carried on with the business. They ran it until 1999. For the following four years Margaret and Kevin returned from Chicago every Summer with their children and ran the shop and pitch and putt course.

In 2002 they started selling take away coffees, teas and hot chocolates. These were very popular especially with the kids swimming in the Pollock Holes and walkers. The following year they added some tables and chairs outside and in 2003 they decided to return to Kilkee permanently. As the pitch and putt course was only a Summer business, they decided to open a coffee shop and in 2005 the Diamond Rocks Cafe was established.

OUR VALUES

QUALITY

Our aim is to serve our customers with top quality food and beverages at affordable prices. We know all of our suppliers personally and we can ensure that this is the case. Our bread and cakes are baked early every morning, by hand, to ensure freshness and top quality. All our sandwiches, salads and dishes are made to order. We know the pleasure that fine food brings and it is always great to see our customers leave happy and looking forward to their next visit.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Our employees are our internal customers and we value and appreciate them. From the moment our customers walk through the front door, we encourage our team to have a smile on their face and a genuine welcome for all. We pride ourselves on being attentive, friendly and accommodating. Our customers are our bread and butter and deserve to be treated with the upmost of respect at all times. We always welcome customer feedback and this helps us to improve our business.
When things do go wrong, we try to ensure that the customer is dealt with fairly and is happy with the end result. Sometimes the weather isn’t always dry and as we get a lot of walkers and cyclists, we offer them a free drying service for their clothes! We have safe and full wheel chair accessibility in the cafe, on the patio and a designated bathroom for wheel chair users.

SOURCE

We try to source as much of our food and beverages from the Kilkee and West Clare area. We always insist on receiving the finest and freshest ingredients from our suppliers. Our seafood is delivered daily from Carrigaholt and Doonbeg. All our meats are one hundred percent Irish and traceable. Our fruit and vegetables are delivered daily. We work with Jennifer and Tommy Ryan of Ponaire Coffee, based in Annacotty, who hand roast to our exacting specifications.
Ponaire only purchase top grade beans and have visited some of their suppliers from around the world. Jennifer and Tommy have years of experience and guarantee one of the freshest bean to cup coffees in Ireland. Clare Spring, based in Lissycasey, Co. Clare supply our bottled water. Organic and pure in essence, their water is created and filtered by nature and their bottles include a completely organic, biodegradable and compostable bottle made from corn, the first bottle of its kind in Ireland.
